Bandwith problems from Jiangsu (China)?

Hi,
i’m doing some tests from Jiangsu.
Last week i had good results, but this week i’ve “strange” results.
For example a content has downloaded today in 100s but last week it has downloaded only in 3-4 seconds from the same origin.
There’s any bandwith problems from Jiangsu server this week?
My configuration is:

  • Jiangsu China
  • IE7
  • DSL 1.5Mbps/384Kbps
  • origin server CloudFront

I’ve found also a problems with the setting of “Minimum test duration”: sometimes it’s ignored

Best regards,
Luca

There shouldn’t be any machine-specific bandwidth issues but the network characteristics tend to be all over the place when I try to test from within China. Are you testing a site inside of China or outside?

Thanks a lot for your quick response!
I’m testing a web site accelerated by amazon cloudfront. It hasn’t any pop in china. The nearest is in hong kong… I’m comparing the web performance between cloudfront and origin server. Last week i was able to see video in http streaming at 800kbps from cloudfront but this week i can’t download a simple javascript resource in less than 50seconds…
In Jiangsu are you using chines dns server (or others like 8.8.8.8 of google)?
I think if you show the dns configured in the machines it can be a nice enhancement!

If you turn on tcpdump you can see the DNS servers in the packet data. Jaingsu is configured both with Google DNS and local ISP DNS but the local ISP DNS tends to be a lot flakier so Google’s DNS usually wins.
