is there any option to run tests for .htpasswd protected pages?
I have seen the scripting-documentation to login via form fields. But how to
fill user and password for .htpasswd protection?

If you go to https://www.webpagetest.org/?auth=1 there will be an “authentication” tab where you can provide credentials used for basic-auth protected pages.
The UI had to be hidden by default because some user’s password extensions were autofilling it when they didn’t want it.
