Switch hosting providers. If your current one isn’t going to be serious about solving performance issues then you should look elsewhere. It’s not uncommon for hosting providers to overload their servers in order to keep the hosting costs down (particularly for the really cheap shared hosting plans, and even more so for a “free” offering).

Some are better than others but you largely get what you pay for.

I had this exact problem with shared hosting account I have had for nine years and after much wrangling with my host, I finally got a person on the phone who didn’t have the “blame the customer first” mentality and helped me to solve the problem. We moved my entire hosting to another server within their hosting, it was a one-mouseclick job for me - the support tech had determined that I had been on a “really old and tired, outdated” machine.

Patrick’s advice above is exactly right, I was just that one phone conversation away from switching hosts myself. Hard to make such a change after nine years for me though, you may not have that issue.

I suffered from this same thing for a long time. I was on a dedicated machine, so I knew it wasn’t overloaded. What I ended up having to do was remove the amount mysql queries that were required on page load, which helped, then I just got a newer server with more CPU power, which got rid the problem completely.

Let me know if you’re still having the issue and I’d be happy to help you resolve it
